Kyouko is indeed a deeper character than she seems and she really cares for her friends. You can take a character at face value or you can truly get to know them.
It is probably for this reason that she would rather just fend for herself now. Although this does not end well for her family, she had made an unselfish wish to make her father happy. It is revealed that she became a magical girl in order to grant her father followers for his religious beliefs.
Kyouko is first shown as incredibly selfish as she doesn't care what happens to other people when she battles witches, and it is even hinted that she steals food to survive, not caring how she gets it.ĭespite her somewhat cruel and sadistic side, Kyouko is actually quite caring. She constantly antagonizes Sayaka when they first meet to the point that she will approach Sayaka outside of battling witches. Kyouko is somewhat of an antagonist when she is first revealed.
